Kurzportrait Dr. Vassiliki Pothou
Als Altphilologin habe ich mich vorwiegend mit Thukydides und mit verwandten Themen der altgriechischen Geschichtsschreibung beschäftigt. Geboren wurde ich in Heraklion auf Kreta und wuchs in Athen auf. Nach meinem Studium in Athen wurde ich 1998 über Thukydides unter Betreuung von Monique Trédé und Simone Follet und mit Förderung von Jacqueline de Romilly in Paris promoviert.
Weiter arbeitete ich als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Universität Madrid (Institut für Klassische Philologie (Diccionario Griego-Espanol) als Stipendiatin der A. G. Leventis-Stiftung. Ich war Stipendiatin der Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung und arbeitete an den Universitäten Regensburg und Kiel im Institut für Klassische Philologie.
Der wesentliche Schwerpunkt meiner Forschung ist Thukydides. Ich bin Autorin einiger Monographien und Kommentare zur Archäologie, Pentekontaetia und den Exkursen des Thukydides und habe mehrere Artikel, Buchbesprechungen und Bewertungen für wissenschaftliche Zeitschriften der Klassischen Philologie verfasst.
Darüber
hinaus habe ich über Probleme der Wasserversorgung, Techniken des Recyclings in der antiken Geschichtsschreibung gearbeitet und mich mit Fragen der Intertextualität zwischen Thukydides und
Flavius Josephus (Bellum Judaicum) befasst. Das Buchmanuskript ist publiziert. Derzeit beschäftige ich mich mit der Frage nach Thukydides' Spuren in historischen (In Flaccum, Legatio ad Gaium), apologetischen
(De vita Mosis, De vita contemplativa, Apologia pro Judaeis) und
philosophischen Werken von Philon von Alexandria.

Dr. Vassiliki Pothou is a classical philologist and lecturer of Classics. The essential focus of her research is Thucydides and related issues of ancient Greek historiography. She was born in Heraklion of Crete and grew up in Athens. After her studies in Athens, she accomplished her PhD in Paris in 1998 on Thucydides under the supervision of Monique Trédé and Simone Follet and with promotion of Jacqueline de Romilly.
She worked as a research assistant at the University of Madrid (Institute of Classical Philology (Diccionario Griego-Espanol) as a fellow of the A. G. Leventis Foundation. She was a fellow of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and worked at the University of Regensburg and Kiel in the Institute of Classical Philology. She organised three conferences on "Thucydides as a violent teacher" (2008) together with Georg Rechenauer, on "Ancient Sparta" (2009) with Anton Powell and on "Human Development in Sacred Landscapes: between Ritual Tradition, Creativity and Emotionality" in European Cultural Centre of Delphi (2011) with Lutz Käppel.
She is the author of some monographies and commentaries on Archaeology, Pentekontaetia and the excursuses of Thucydides. She wrote several articles, book reviews and evaluations for scientific journals of classical philology.
Recently her research interests include problems of water supply and techniques of recycling in ancient historiography. Her manuscript on intertextuality between
Thucydides and Flavius Josephus (Bellum Judaicum) has been recently published. More recently she has been working on issues of intertextuality between Philo of Alexandria
(historical works (Against Flaccus, On the Embassy to Gaius), apologetic writings (On the Life of Moses, On the Jews, On the Contemplative Life), some
philosophical treatises) and Thucydides.
